Turkish Artillery Shelled Syrian Army Positions In Western Aleppo: Monitoring Group

Early on May 30, the Turkish military artillery shelled positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the western Aleppo countryside, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

The pro-opposition monitoring group said the shelling targeted army positions in the town of Urem al-Kubra. No losses were reported.

Pro-government sources didn’t report any attack on SAA troops in western Aleppo. The Turkish shelling was either very limited or the SOHR’s report is inaccurate.

Tensions in Greater Idlib, where a ceasefire was implemented by Russia and Turkey on March 5, have been escalating for a while now. A day earlier, five SAA service members and three militants of the al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) were reportedly killed during clashes in the region’s southern part.

Idlib militants regullary carry out provocations in order to sabotage the implementation of the Russian-Turkish de-escalation deal. Meanwhile, Turkey is yet to fulfill its commitments under the March 5 agreement and reopen the M4 highway that links the cities of Lattakia and Aleppo.
