MPs Move at Parliament Over Turkish Escalations in Libya

Al-Ain news portal quoted a number of members of parliament revealing a planned meeting between a number of specific committees of the assembly to discuss the prospects of the Turkish interference in the war-torn country, which are to be attended by relevant ministers.

The Egyptian MPs accused Turkey of launching an aggression against Libya, with Qatari funding aimed at spreading terrorism in the Arab region from Tripoli.

Egyptian parliamentarian Mustafa Bakri confirmed his request for a briefing session, calling on Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly to hold an urgent meeting over the dangers of the Turkish invasion of Libyan soil.

Bakry said to “Al-Ain News” the necessity of holding a joint meeting between the Arab Affairs and Defense and National Security committees in the Egyptian parliament in the presence of Madbouly and the relevant ministers.

The Egyptian MP expected to discuss the request for briefing in Parliament within the next few days, stressing his country’s position of rejecting all foreign interference in the Libyan affairs, and reaching a political solution to the crisis provided that the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of that country are preserved.

Although he described the situation in Libya as “dangerous”, Bakri stressed that the national army is achieving very important victories in the country, expecting strong strikes in the coming period.

The parliament’s briefing request stated that since the signing of the military alliance agreement between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Al-Wefaq government leader Fayez Al-Sarraj on November 27, 2019, Ankara has begun to activate the agreement despite its illigitmacy.

The briefing request submitted by Bakri was based on the rejection of the Libyan parliament to approve the (Erdogan-Sarraj) agreement as stipulated in the Skhirat agreement signed on December 17, 2015 between the Libyan parties.

The briefing request stated: “Despite the illegality of this agreement, and its violation of Security Council Resolution No. (1970) issued in 2011 to ban the supply of arms to Libya, the Turkish government began sending weapons, mercenaries, Turkish soldiers and officers to support Al- Saraj government, which lost its legitimacy, and committed constitutional violations to the Skhirat agreement.”

Turkey transferred more than 10 thousand mercenaries, most of them Syrians, to the fighting axes around Tripoli, in conjunction with the disappearance of about 9 thousand armed men in the Syrian north, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

On his part, Ambassador Mohamed El-Oraby, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Egyptian Parliament, and the former Foreign Minister, told Al-Ain News that Turkish military intervention in Libya will be discussed, stressing that “any threat to Libya’s stability as a neighboring country affects the Egyptian national security.”

Al-Urabi described the Turkish intervention in Libya as “political and military bullying”, explaining that Erdogan’s regime has revealed its true face as a state that supports and sponsors terrorism, and is not concerned with any rules of international law, but rather is considered an odd member of NATO.

“We are facing a major threat and terrorist threat emerging from Libya to the rest of the Arab region and Africa … Turkish ambition has no limits, and represents a major threat to peace and security in the region,” he added.

Al-Urabi, also former foreign minister, expected that Libya would be the quagmire in which Erdogan would drown, and it would be the beginning of the end for his military adventure, otherwise his danger would extend as cancer in the region.
