Assad regime airstrikes kill at least 17 in northern Syria

Beirut, Apr 6 (EFE).- At least 17 people were killed on Sunday in air strikes conducted by the Bashar Al-Assad regime in different parts of Idleb province in northern Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, SOHR, reported Monday.

At least eight were killed in a strike on the village of Kafr Tajarim.

Three others were killed in a similar attack in Salaqin, five in Idleb city, capital of Idleb province, and a child died in the town of Sarmin.

Most of Idleb province is under the control of rebels, including Al-Qaeda affiliate the Al-Nusra Front, which recently seized control of the capital from the Syrian army.

SOHR also reported an exchange of prisoners between regime supporters and Islamic insurgents in nearby Aleppo on Sunday.

Opposition forces released hostages including 10 children and 15 women from the Shiite villages of Nubul and Al Zahra, while government forces released a military leader from the Army of Islam, captured in that area.

The exchange occurred with Kurdish mediation.

SOHR recalled a similar exchange on March 8 when Al-Nusra released two women as regime forces released a rebel fighter.

More than 220,000 civilians and combatants have died in the Syrian conflict since March 2011, according to the United Nations.
