Afrin | Turkish-backed factions release one woman, keeping ten others from Afrin held by Al-Hamza Division

Aleppo Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR sources say that Turkish-backed factions have released a woman who was among the 11 female prisoners who appeared in the video footage, while releasing them from Al-Hamza prison in Afrin and were transferred to Turkish-backed police prisons.

SOHR sources added that the remaining women detainees are supposed to be released in the coming days.

On May 29, SOHR sources reported that militants from rural Damascus had freed detainees, including women from Afrin who had been held by Al-Hamza Division, from their headquarters after the Division’s gunmen were expelled.

The Syrian Observatory had obtained a video showing a number of women after being freed from the prisons of Turkish-backed factions in Afrin.

On the other hand, people from Damascus and countryside in the north of Syria issued a statement demanding the leadership of the “National Army” and the Turks remove all the headquarters of Al-Hamza Division from the city of Afrin, and hand over all those involved and be held accountable. They demanded a clarification why there were naked women in Al-Hamza prisons. The statement confirmed the presence of dozens of women inside the prison.
