Efforts to ease economic crisis in NE Syria | Several areas switch to Turkish currency, and “Salvation Government” produces lesser quality bread

SOHR sources have reported today that the “Salvation Government” reduced the price of the pack bread from 600 to 400 Syrian pounds, by producing bread of a lower quality, with retaining the pack bread’s weight 650 grams, subsidized by 30% of the General Foundation for grain trading and processing of the “Salvation Government.”

It will be produced on Friday June 12th, and will be distributed in Idlib city, Jabal al-Zawiya and Ariha.

The price of the pack bread has reached 1,000 Syrian pounds, coinciding with the height of the Syrian pound plummet. 

On the other hand, large quantities of Turkish banknotes in small denominations have reached the markets in the areas controlled by Turkish-backed factions in Aleppo countryside, the areas controlled by the factions and HTS in Idlib. The currency will gradually switch, due to the Syrian pound plummet and instability.

On Juan 8, The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored a very rapid collapse of the Syrian pound against the U.S. dollar.

Markets witnessed an astronomical rise in the prices of basic materials and medicines in various Syrian provinces, as well as the loss of many of them, amid fears of a new uncontrollable humanitarian disaster.

In Idlib, the Syrian pound’s selling rate has recorded 3600 SYL against the dollar and 3,500 SYL pounds as buying rate, while the Syrian pound’s selling rate against the euro recorded 4096 SYL and 3951 SYL as buying rate. Also the exchange rate against the Turkish lira has reached 531 SYL as selling rate and 514 SYL as buying rate.
