Coalition expands military bases | SDF seize buildings owned previously by Syrian regime in Al-Hasakah city

Reliable sources have informed the Syrian observatory that Syria Democratic Forces have seized several buildings used to belong to the Syrian regime in Ghuwayran neighbourhood in Al-Hasakah city, they are: the building of grain, electricity company, sports city, Directorate of Tourism and Industry.

SOHR sources have confirmed that these buildings are located in areas which have come under the control of SDF since they entered the neighbourhood a few years earlier, and that the buildings have been empty all through this period.

The seizure of these buildings comes after US-backed Coalition forces’ intention to expand their military base in the area.

It is worth noting that Al-Hasakah and Al-Qamishli cities experience a state of tension from time to time. This tension escalated after the retired major general, Ghassan Halim Khalil, had assumed the position of the governor of Al-Hasakah province. Since Khalil became Al-Hasakah governor, he has worked on defaming SDF and inciting ethnic hatred between the Arabs and the Kurds. The major general had served as the chief of the information branch in the Syrian regime’s state security department.

Syrian Observatory sources reported in late April that clashes erupted between Asayish Forces and NDF nearly a week after tension started to escalate. During that week, the Internal Security Forces’ headquarters came under NDF attacks with bombs and grenades.

In their statement, Asayish Forces said that NDF attacked their military post in Hilko neighborhood, in an attempt to advance into Autonomous Administration-held areas and establishing military posts and checkpoints there, near the railway. “NDF practices reveal the helplessness of the Syrian regime and loyal militias” the Internal Security Forces added.

SOHR sources reported in the previous day that fierce clashes erupted between the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and regime-backed National Defence Forces (NDF), in Al-Qamishly city. The clashes were concentrated in Halku area where NDF unleashed an attack on Asayish forces.

Reliable reported suggested there were casualties in the ranks of both sides. Meanwhile, Russian forces and Autonomous Administration interfered attempting to defuse tension between both conflicting parties.
