Israeli military source: intensity of Syria raids aims to thwart new Iranian attempt to develop missiles
An Israeli military source said on Sunday that “the attacks against Iranian targets in Syria are aimed to thwart a new Iranian attempt to develop precision missiles.”The source pointed out in an interview with North Press that the intensity of attacks against Iranian targets in Syria stems from reliable information about an Iranian approach to developing a precision missile project in Syria and Lebanon, in conjunction with Iran’s withdrawal of its elements from areas near the border with Israel.Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot reported that “the recent attack in Syria, attributed to Israel, resulted in the killing of six members of pro-Iranian militias in Syria, some of them of Syrian nationality.”These raids come days after two Syrian soldiers and five pro-Syrian government militants were killed in Israeli strikes targeting southern and eastern Syria on Tuesday evening, according to the British-based war monitor Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).“The bombing, which was attributed to Israel recently in the Syrian territories, targeted two factories drying onions and producing animal food,” according to SOHR.Yediot Aharonot reported that Iran had seized parts of the factories and stored its weapons there for camouflage to use it to counter Israeli attacks.Last week, the Israeli Air Force allegedly targeted specific sites in Syria, killing several Syrians and wounding dozens, though Israel did not claim responsibility for the bombing.“It is clear from the reports coming from Syria that those who defend these missile stores or missile storage sites for industrialization in Syrian territory are Shiite militias that are operated and funded by Iran. It is also possible that reports of the killings of militia members are intended to cover up the fact that these were Iranians,” according to the Israeli military source.
