Al-Sina’a prison | Tens calm returns after ISIS riot contained

Reliable sources have informed SOHR that tense calm returned to Al-Sina’a prison in Ghuwayran neighbourhood in Al-Hasakah city, as Syria Democratic Forces managed to contain and put an end to the riot by ISIS prisoners.

Yesterday, SOHR sources said that ISIS prisoners rioted in Ghuwayran prison controlled by SDF in Al-Hasakah city. ISIS prisoners demanded that their families be allowed to visit them in the prison and called for fair trials. The prisoners tried to break down the prison’s walls and doors, amid confirmed reports of casualties among prisoners.

On the other hand, International Coalition helicopters flew over Al-Hasakah city at low altitude.

A similar ISIS riot took place in Al-Hasakah on May 3. SOHR activists reported at that time that SDF special forces and anti-terrorist forces intervened to break up a riot by ISIS members inside Al-Sena’a prison in Ghuwayran neighbourhood in Al-Hasakeh.

Hours later, the riot was contained and brought to an end by holding joint negotiations between SDF representatives and Coalition forces on the one hand, and ISIS prisoners on the other. The organization’s prisoners had ripped off the doors of dormitories and corridors before the SDF regained control of the prison.
