US-Russian tension in NE Syria | US forces block Russian patrol near Smelka border crossing

Syrian Observatory activists have monitored U.S. forces blocking a patrol of Russian police nearby Al-Malekiyah city in north-eastern Al-Hasakah. Several U.S. armoured vehicles were stationed on the road to Smelka crossing on the Syria-Iraq border and blocked the Russian patrol which was on its way to the border crossing.

Yesterday, Reliable SOHR sources confirmed that the people of “Derna Aghi” village in the countryside of Al-Qahtaniyyah, north-east of Al-Hasakah province, prevented Russian forces from entering their village. The Russian had to set up a military post in a tent on the outskirts of the village, after they had accomplished a military patrol on the Syria-Turkey border strip.
