SOHR clarifies | Report of raping a girl from Afrin removed from SOHR website after threats of killing her family

A report about the circumstances in which a girl from Afrin was raped had been published on SOHR website on Tuesday, then it was removed for fear of the safety of the girl after many threats by Turkish-backed factions of killing the whole family if they talked about the incident. After communication with the girl’s relatives, we at the Syrian Observatory republished the report once again.

When the report was removed from SOHR website, several social sharing platforms and media outlets started to fabricate lies in a failed attempt to defame the reliability of SOHR sources. It is worth noting that these platforms strongly defend violations committed by Turkish-backed factions against the Syrian people, especially Afrin residents, and wage war against every body tries to unveil these atrocities. However, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights will continue revealing violations by all powers on Syrian territory against the Syrian people.

As SOHR report mentioned: “The areas held by Turkish-backed factions experience repeated incidents of rape, in which members of Turkish-backed factions are usually the perpetrators, while the authorities and the judiciary continue ignoring such incidents.

SOHR sources say that members of the “Sultan Murad” faction went with the mukhtar of Kutinli village in rural Afrin, and spoke to the father of a girl in the village for the purpose of marriage. When the father rejected their proposal, the members of “Sultan Murad” threatened the girl’s father, beat him, took the girl by force and forced her to marry one of them. A few days later, the girl returned to her father’s house after being raped by four members.”
