In the desert in the Syrian province of Homs, there has been fierce fighting between ISIS and the Syrian army. According to the NGO Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), which has a local network of informants, about fifty people were killed.

IS militants are said to have attacked positions of the military in the night from Thursday to Friday. The Russian Air Force was also involved in the fighting. It supports the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The victims fell on the side of the army (20) as well as the jihadists (31).

ISIS may have been official or defeated since March 2019, but the terrorist organization still carries out repeated attacks on Assad troops and its supporters. They are particularly active in the province of Homs and Deir Ez-zor, in eastern Syria.
