Alternative housing for displaced people | Turkish associations complete first phase of massive housing project in north-western Syria

Turkish aid and civil society organizations have completed the first phase of their housing project for displaced people in Mashhad Rouhin area near the border with the Iskenderun region.

7,000 houses were built during the first phase of the project, which is supposed to be completed with the construction of 20,000 houses, and may reach 50,000 homes in several locations in Idlib, to house the displaced people under appropriate conditions at a size of 30 meters. Each house consists of a room and salon, each of which can accommodate a family.

Two Turkish associations and a volunteer team in north-western Syria are working on projects aimed at changing the classic camps with concrete ones, in order to help displaced people in the area with the minimum accommodation requirements.

Residents of villages and towns controlled by regime forces had demonstrated earlier in several rural areas in Idlib and Aleppo, demanding the movement of regime forces to the areas stipulated by ”Sochi” agreement and the return of civilians to their villages. They also called on the Turkish government to fulfil its promises, while Turkish associations and organizations continue to work on housing these displaced people near the border in alternative camps, which are only a few kilometres away from from their homes.

Hundreds of camps are scattered in northwestern Syria, up to nearly 1,300 camps, with more than 350 makeshift camps inhabited by more than one million displaced people.
