“Shabiha-like” behaviour | Head of “Abu Hamam Education Academy” attacks vigil by teachers demanding the improvement of living conditions

Reliable sources have informed the Syrian Observatory that the head of the SDF-affiliated “Abu Hamam Education Academy” attacked a vigil held yesterday by teachers in Abu Hamam town in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. The teachers demanded relevant parties pay they salaries and called for getting their salaries paid in US dollars after the Syrian currency plunge.

According to SOHR sources, the academy’s head tore the signboards which the protesters lifted, behaving like “Shabiha” (individuals or gangsters who abuse power and do illegal actions for the benefit of specific influential bodies, like the Syrian regime’s Shabiha). This incident sparked broad anger among teachers in the area.

Yesterday, SOHR sources monitored teachers holding a vigil in the SDF-controlled areas of Abu Hamam and Al-Keshkiyya in eastern Deir Ezzor, protesting the “corrupt officials of local councils” and demanding the provision of services to the area and pay raise in light of the harsh economic conditions that the region has been going through.
