ISIS resurgence | Battles renew between regime and ISIS in Al-Sukhnah desert, while Russian jets strike the area

SOHR sources say that battle renewed between ISIS and regime forces in Al-Sukhnah desert in the eastern countryside of Homs, near Deir Ezzor administrative border. The clashes, accompanied by shelling and exchange of fire, coincide with airstrikes Russian airstrikes on the area, amid confirmed reports about casualties on both sides.

 

On July 7, Observatory sources said that fierce clashes continued between regime forces and ISIS, as a part of ISIS attacks on regime positions in the triangle of “Aleppo-Hama-Al-Raqqah”. The clashes, accompanied by exchange of fire between the two sides, coincided with Russian airstrikes in an attempt to repel ISIS fierce attack.

 

SOHR activists documented the killing of 11 regime soldiers and loyalists since yesterday, while 13 ISIS members were also killed in clashes and bombardment in the same period, amid confirmed reports about more casualties on both sides.

 

Since the 24th of March 2019, SOHR has documented the killing of at least 601 regime soldiers and loyalists of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, including at least two Russians, and 127 Iranian-backed militiamen of non-Syrian nationalities. All were killed in attacks, bombings and ambushes by the “Islamic State”, west of Euphrates in the deserts of Deir Ezzor, Homs, and Al-Suwaidaa.

 

Also four civilians working in gas fields, 11 shepherds and four other people were killed and documented by SOHR in the same period, from late March 2019 until today. They were killed in attacks by ISIS cells. While 256 ISIS members were also killed in attacks and bombardment in the same period.
