Anti-SDF protests | Locals in Al-Shheel demonstrate demanding the release of civilian detainees in SDF prisons

SOHR eyewitnesses say that dozens of residents from Al-Shheel in Deir al-Zour countryside, staged today a demonstration demanding the release of civilian detainees in SDF prisons. The demonstrators have set rubber tyres on fire in the streets of the town expressing their anger.

On July 8, reliable sources informed the Syrian Observatory that the head of the SDF-affiliated “Abu Hamam Education Academy” attacked a vigil held yesterday by teachers in Abu Hamam town in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. The teachers demanded relevant parties pay their salaries and called for getting their salaries paid in US dollars after the Syrian currency plunge.

According to SOHR sources, the academy’s head tore the signboards which the protesters lifted, behaving like “Shabiha” (individuals or gangsters who abuse power and do illegal actions for the benefit of specific influential bodies, like the Syrian regime’s Shabiha). This incident sparked broad anger among teachers in the area.
