Rural Deir ez-Zor | People reject and boycott SDF’s new school curricula, as they go against customs and traditions

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has monitored widespread rejection by the parents of students and educational clusters in Deir ez-Zor countryside, which is under the control of SDF. A group of educational staff and parents of students met in the city of Al-Busayrah, east of Deir ez-Zor, expressing their rejection and boycott of these curriculums, because they conflict with the customs and traditions of their society.

During the past few hours, the Education and Instruction Authority in northern and eastern Syria held a meeting with the people of Hajin in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, and its teaching staff with civic councils and parents of students.

They decided to reject the curriculums because they go against the customs and traditions of their society and spoke of other religions than Islam, which is the religion of the people of the region.

The new curriculums also historically marginalize the city of Deir ez-Zor, calling for the division of Syria and the obliteration of Syrian identity, and leaving their children to face an unknown future without any regional, Arab or international recognition of the certificate granted.

Meanwhile, the meeting proposed adopting the UNICEF curriculum until a unified curriculum is found for all Syrians and to depoliticizing the educational process.

SOHR activists have monitored tens of al-Sh’aytat people, including teachers, participating in a demonstration in front of the Education Academy in Abu Hamam town in rural Deir Ezzor, expressing their rejection of curriculum provided in the area’s schools by SDF-affiliated “Directorate of Education”. The protesters lifted signboards with slogans on them read “your curriculum is poisoning the society – the people of al-Sh’aytat reject your imported curriculum”.
