Coronavirus | Number of infected people jumps to 18, and Health Directorate in Idlib addresses letter to residents of northern Syria

SOHR sources say that medical teams have recorded a new coronavirus case in north-western Syria.

According to Observatory statistics, the number of confirmed cases, since July 9 to date, rose to 18, including six of medical staff, four of whom are doctors. Broken down by region as follows:  14 cases in Idlib and countryside, and four cases in the areas controlled by Turkish-backed factions.

On the other hand, Idlib’s Health Directorate, through its director, addressed a letter to the residents of northern Syria and the camps, regarding the coronavirus pandemic and the measures to be taken to prevent it, calling for adherence to personal protective, social distancing instructions and wearing masks. 

The Health Directorate in Idlib has equipped three hospitals to receive suspected coronavirus cases, with four quarantine centres in Idlib, Sarmada and Kafr Takharem in Idlib countryside.

The “Salvation Government” issued a circular including several precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus in areas under its control. The precautionary measures included the following:

  • The prohibition of gatherings.

  • The closure of pools.

  • Work of restaurants to be limited to delivery service only.

  • The closure of funfairs, private and public parks.

  • The suspension of all activities in sports halls and stadiums.

The “Salvation Government” also emphasized that people have to adopt the utmost levels of precautionary measures of protection and putting on face masks.
