Regime security crackdowns in 11 days | Intelligence services arrest nearly 40 regime officers and officials for “dealing with external bodies and embezzling funds”

SOHR activists say that regime intelligence services continue their security campaign which target regime officers and officials. The campaign extended to new areas, after it was concentrated mainly in Damascus and countryside during the past days.

According to Observatory statistics, since the beginning of the campaign about 11 days ago, at least 38 regime officers and officials were arrested for “dealing with external bodies and embezzling state funds.”

SOHR sources reported previously that regime intelligence services continued their crackdown on business, institutions and foundations owned by Rami Makhlouf, the cousin of Syrian regime president Bashar al-Assad.

Nearly 12 ex-fighters of “Al-Bostan Association” were arrested in raids by regime intelligence services escorted by Russian forces. The recent campaign was mainly concentrated in Latakia. The recently arrested former fighters threatened to “spread chaos if something bad happened to Makhlouf”.
