Rising tension | SDF open fire on young men near crossings used for smuggling, igniting popular anger in rural Deir Ezzor

Reliable SOHR sources have confirmed that SDF gunmen opened fire on three young men as they were near water crossings, used for smuggling goods to regime-controlled areas, in Jadeed Ekaydat village in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, injuring one.

After this incident, residents of the area attacked the village’s military outpost and held SDF members stationed there. The members of that outpost were released later after mediation by the village’s dignitaries. SDF arrested three young men from the same village in the wake of these skirmishes.

On July 31, Observatory activists monitored security tension in Al-Baghouz town in Deir Ezzor countryside between members of SDF and a family from the town, as SDF members opened fire on an armed young man who refused to stop and turn himself in. Meanwhile, SDF was on high alert in anticipation of the residents’ reaction after the injury of the young man.

On the other hand, gunmen opened fire on a SDF military patrol in al-Nassif neighbourhood in the same town, causing material damage. In the meantime, SDF besieged al-Nassif neighbourhood and brought in about 200 members to arrest youths from the neighbourhood.
