Turkey builds new military base in Syria

Idlib: Turkey establishes new military base in Syria. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Monday that Turkish troops had set up a new base in the Jebel al-Aqrad area near the northern Syrian city of Latakia. The new base is aimed at weakening Syrian forces’ presence in the district around Latakia, according to the UAE-based Rai al-Yum website.

Turkish officials say the new military base is aimed at maintaining law and order in the Turkish-controlled Syrian region and protecting the Syrian people. However, some UAE media outlets reported that the move was prompted by Turkey’s attempt to infiltrate more Syria.
