Rising tension in Daraa’s Um Walad | “Al-Rifa’e” tribe threatens regime forces and intelligence service

Tension is rapidly growing in Um Walad town in the eastern countryside of Daraa in the wake of yesterday’s dramatic developments. In this context, the tribe of “Al-Rifa’e”, a prominent tribe in Um Walad town, has issued a statement concerning the current developments in the town, announcing that it supports and sides the town’s residents and the ex-fighters, who had given up fighting, against the regime’s military intelligence and former fighters, who joined its branches after reconciliations with security services.

 

The tribe also announced disowning “Abu Ali Al-Laham”, a member affiliated to the tribe and an former opposition fighter who works now for the “military intelligence service”. The tribe also demanded the release of all detainees and holding accountable all individuals involved in the killing acts in the town. In its statement, “Al-Rifa’e” tribe also threatened to confront and attack regime forces and security services if its demands were not fulfilled in 24 hours.

 

Yesterday, SOHR activists said that a young man was found dead in his house in Um Walad town in Daraa countryside. According to local sources, the young man was strangled to death, hours after his arrest by settled-status agents who joined the Military Intelligence branch in Daraa.

 

SOHR activists had also documented the death of an ex-fighter who had joined the military intelligence branch after reconciliations with regime security services, in clashes with former opposition fighters in Um Walad town in the eastern countryside of Daraa, amid ongoing clashes between both sides.
