Fires in “Bab Al-Salama” camp | Several tents burn down leaving over 15 families homeless

Syrian Observatory sources have reported that several tents caught fire in the early hours of Friday morning, in “Bab Al-Salama” camp in northern Aleppo. The fire brigades managed to extinguish the fires, while no casualties have been reported. However, at least 15 families became homeless after their tents had burnt down, worsening the inhumane situation of these displaced people.

Yesterday, SOHR eyewitnesses said that a large fire broke out in the mountains of al-Bassit area in Latakia countryside. The blazes devoured pine forests, which contains holiday centres, and extended to civilians’ houses, forcing dozens of families to flee the area before the blazes spread.

Plumes of smoke covered Latakia countryside to Jabal al-Turkman, along with the heat wave in the Levant and the whole region, where temperatures exceeded 40 degrees Celsius, according to the meteorological centre.

It is worth noting that forests are experiencing seasonal arsons that are renewed each year, as some powerful people encroach on forest territories and cut trees to use them in coal industry, since the price of coal increased in the wake of fuel high prices. In addition, these powerful individuals invest in this land by planting olive trees in order to take over these plots of land later.
