ISIS resurgence | Fierce clashes continue between regime forces and ISIS in Syrian desert, amid intensive Russian airstrikes

Syrian Observatory activists have reported ongoing clashes between ISIS members and regime forces in the Syrian desert. Fierce battles are underway in Al-Sukhnah desert in the area from east Homs countryside to Al-Shawla, and Al-Raqqah countryside to the north.

The clashes are concentrated recently in “Wadi Al-Dabiyyat” and the surrounding areas of “Al-Hail” oil field in the eastern countryside of Homs. On the other hand, SOHR sources also monitored intensive airstrikes by Russian jets on ISIS positions in Syrian desert.

Yesterday, Observatory sources said that regime forces, loyal militias and Russian-backed militias were continuing broad sweeping operations in the Syrian desert in Homs countryside and the triangle of Aleppo-Hama-Al-Raqqah, searching for ISIS cells. These sweeping operations were backed by considerable Russian support through intensive airstrikes on a daily basis, in an attempt to contain ISIS escalating operations in the region.

On Friday, SOHR sources reported Russian jets execute intensive airstrikes on a daily basis, targeting ISIS positions in the Syrian desert, in an attempt to put an end to the escalating ISIS activities there. In the recent times, ISIS unleashed several attacks targeting various positions of regime forces and loyal militias in the Syrian desert.
