Turkey’s military build-up | Army strengthens positions in Idlib countryside, and detonates IED on M4 road

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has monitored today the Turkish army erecting soil barriers and fortifying its positions in the villages of Qominas, Nayrab, Taftanaz and the western side of the city of Saraqeb.

On the other hand, an explosion occurred near a Turkish post in the Ain Hamra area, as the Turkish army detonated an IED planted on a damaged rocket on the Aleppo-Latakia road (M4).

Yesterday, reliable SOHR sources confirmed that unknown gunmen in a car “Santa Fe” opened fire on several Turkish soldiers in the perimeter of their military base in “Mu’taram” town nearby Ariha city, south of Idlib. The attack left two Turkish soldiers injured, one of them sustained serious injuries.

On August 29, SOHR sources reported car bomb explosion and armed attack on a Turkish post in Sallat Al-Zuhur village in western Idlib.

SOHR activists documented at the time the killing of a resident from Tel Hamki village in the western countryside of Idlib due to the indiscriminate gunfire, in addition to the injury of several members of Al-Sham Corps, in charge of guarding the Turkish post, during the attack.

A day later, SOHR sources monitored Turkish forces on high alert along Latakia-Aleppo international highway (M4), in which Turkish troops were seen deployed in the area between Ishtabraq post to Nahlaya town in the western countryside of Idlib.

It is worth noting that a group known as “Khattab Al-Shishani” Battalions claimed responsibility of previous attacks on Russian-Turkish joint patrols on M4. However, it is not known yet to which body this group affiliated.
