Woman shot dead by Turkish forces in Idlib: monitor

Turkish forces killed a jihadist woman who tried to blew herself up at a Turkish observation point, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Thursday.

The Turkish forces stationed in “Tala’e Al-Ba’ath Camp” in Al-Mastumah area, on the road between Idlib city and Ariha, opened fire on a woman attempting to storm the Turkish post’s major gate with an “AK” gun in her hand, SOHR reported.

The post’s guards managed to kill the woman before reaching the Turkish post.

According to SOHR sources, security groups affiliated to ‘Al-Sham Corps’ took the woman’s body.

Idlib province is the last stronghold for rebels and jihadist groups.

The Turkish outpost and patrols have come under fire and roadside bombs attacks over the past few weeks.

On Wednesday, Turkish forces fended off an attack in the Idlib de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria, the Defense Ministry said.

The ministry said in a statement that groups directed by the Bashar al-Assad regime but disguised as civilians approached several of Turkey’s observation posts in the region .

One of these groups staged an attack near a Turkish observation post and was then dispersed, it added.

Idlib falls within a de-escalation zone forged under an agreement between Turkey and Russia.

The area has been the subject of multiple cease-fire understandings, frequently violated by the Assad regime and its allies.

It is currently home to 4 million civilians, including hundreds of thousands displaced in recent years by regime forces throughout war-torn Syria.

In recent months, nearly 1.7 million Syrians have moved near the Turkish border due to intense attacks by the regime and its allies.
