Coronavirus in regime-held areas | The number of confirmed cases jumps to nearly 26,000, 1,300 die so far, while authorities continue misinformation

As the Syrian Observatory is monitoring and tracking the developments of coronavirus outbreaks in regime-held areas, SOHR activists have documented a spike in the number of infection cases and deaths. Over 4,750 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in regime-held areas in the past few days, while 290 other cases died of the virus in the same period.

Meanwhile, most of the infection cases and deaths are still documented in the provinces of Aleppo, Damascus and Rif Dimashq, amid disastrous medical situation. Moreover, regime authorities continue misinformation and keeping the real number of deaths and infection cases with coronavirus secret.

According to SOHR latest statistics, based on reports obtained from reliable medical sources in regime-controlled areas, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases has reached nearly 25,950, of whom 3,500  recovered, and 1,330 died. The cases are distributed across all Syrian provinces. However, most of the deaths and infections have been in Aleppo, Damascus and Rif Dimashq.
