Defection | An economic official of Autonomous Administration flees to Turkish-controlled areas
Reliable sources have informed the Syrian Observatory that an official of Autonomous Administration in northern and north-eastern Syria in Al-Raqqah has defected from the Autonomous Administration, heading to Tal Abyad city, which is under the control of Turkish forces and their proxy factions.
According to SOHR sources, the dissented official served as the “economic official of Tal Abyad Governing Council” during SDF control of the city.
In mid-April, reliable sources informed SOHR that intelligence services of Syria Democratic forces and the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) unleashed a large-scale security campaign against “corruption” in areas under their control in Al-Raqqah province.
According to very reliable SOHR sources, the campaign focused on municipalities, local councils, SADCOP (Storing and Distributing Co., Petroleum Products) and all bodies affiliated to service facilities, in Tal Abyad and Ain Issa areas in the northern countryside of Al-Raqqah.
More than 96 officials were arrested during the campaign, as they were involved in cases of corruption and misappropriation of funds exceeded hundreds of thousands of U.S. dollars.
This campaign came at a time when corruption spreads widely in SDF-held areas, especially in service facilities, which triggered widespread discontent among residents of these areas.
