Iranian military in Syria | Militias seize many houses in Al-Mayadeen to establish largest security zone

Deir Ezzor Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

Reliable sources in Al-Mayadeen city in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor have informed SOHR that Iranian militias seized a large number of civilian houses in the area between Al-Bel’oum roundabout and the industrial secondary school.

According to SOHR sources, the Iranian militias have seized these houses with the purpose of strengthening their presence and establishing the largest security zone in the region. Accordingly, no one will be able to enter this security zone, unless they get an approval. Moreover, the Iranian militias erected soil barriers and placed cement blocks around all houses they seize, as well as fixing posters of “Qassem Soleimani”.

It is worth noting that most of the houses seized by the Iranians belong to people who have left Al-Mayadeen, while some of these houses are owned to others still living there.

On September 1, Observatory sources reported that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) captured all water crossings used for smuggling between areas under their control in Al-Mayadeen and SDF-held areas on Euphrates river’s opposite bank. IRGC armed group captured Al-Bareed crossing after expelling the 4th Division’s members stationed there. The group also expelling the National Defence Forces from the crossings of Al-Taybah and Al-Kurnish, bringing the two crossings under their control. However, the reasons behind this action remained unknown.
