Damascus | Regime authorities allow residents of Al-Yarmouk camp to return to their homes under conditions

Reliable sources have told SOHR that the regime authorities issued a new decision allowing the people of Al-Yarmouk camp to return to their houses under specific conditions, including the structural safety, presenting ownership documents and getting needed security approvals.

The decision was ratified earlier after a meeting between the commission entrusted with the return of the people of Al-Yarmouk camp to their houses and regime authorities in several stages. In the incoming days, people of Al-Yarmouk camp are supposed to provide their applications to return to their houses, after announcing about the instructions of providing the applications and conditions for applying them.

Local sources have informed SOHR that the residents do not have insistence desire to return to Al-Yarmouk camp, especially after it was turned into a “ghost city” as they describe, because of the considerable destruction to the city’s infrastructure and houses in the wake of the military actions during the past years. However, some of the city’s people who now live in areas in Damascus and Rif Dimashq prefer to return to their homes than being homeless or moving about leased houses, as they say.
