The souks of Saqtieh and Jumruk with more than 150 stores were reopened, although with a discreet commercial movement, while other markets of the city that had 14 square kilometers of areas dedicated to these activities before the war are being reconstructed.
Ghassan Hassani, a civil engineer and resident of Aleppo, assures that ‘we have resisted hard years and defeated terrorism; now our battle is the reconstruction of our city and we are going to win as well.
‘The task is not easy, but the Aleppo people will return the splendor to their city to make it again the important tourist, cultural, commercial and industrial center of the whole Middle East,’ he added.
Rehabilitation work is also continuing at the Umayyad Mosque, one of the most emblematic in Syria and located in the heart of the old city of Aleppo, registered on UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1986.
