Rival factions | Fierce clashes erupt among National Army’s factions in Ras Al-Ain (Sere Kaniye)

Syrian Observatory activists have reported fierce clashes with machineguns between “Sultan Murad Division” and the “20th Division”, both operating under the banner of the Turkish-backed “National Army”, in Ras Al-Ain city (Sere Kaniye) in Al-Hasakah countryside. The clashes, which have been still underway, left a member of “Sultan Murad Division” dead, while other members of both sides sustained various injuries.

 

On October 28, Observatory sources reported a great popular anger in Ras al-Ain city (Sere Kaniye) and its surroundings following the bloody events that took place in the area a day earlier, after a violent armed fight erupted among members of “Sultan Murad Division”. It is worth noting that the clashes left civilian casualties, as five people, including a woman and a child, were killed, and caused material damage to houses as a result of indiscriminate shelling.

 

A day earlier, SOHR activists documented a spike in death toll of the factional fight among members of “Sultan Murad” in Ras Al-Ain city and surrounding areas. Five civilians, including a woman and a child, were killed after several shells hit residential neighbourhoods in Ras Al-Ain city. Moreover, the number of fatalities among the members of “Sultan Murad” jumped to seven, while 15 others were injured, some seriously, and they were taken later to hospitals in Turkey.

 

SOHR sources had documented the death of five members of “Sultan Murad” faction and injury of 16 others they were: 12 members of the same factions and four civilians, following fierce clashes which erupted in the evening among members of “Sultan Murad” at Al-Duwayrah checkpoint in Ras Al-Ain countryside in rural Al-Hasakah.

 

The clashes extended later into Ras Al-Ain city which caused panic among civilians due to the indiscriminate gunshots near the areas of conflict, as the warring parties used light and medium weapons and RPGs.

 

According to SOHR sources, the clashes flared up after a dispute over revenue-sharing at Al-Duwayrah checkpoint and arresting members of “Sultan Murad” faction.
