Syrian military base dismantled

Turkish forces had completed dismantling a Turkey-run observation point in Syria’s central province of Hama, state news agency SANA reported.

The Turkish forces completed dismantling their observation point and took out all their gears in the town of Morek in the countryside of Hama, said SANA.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said after the full dismantling of the observation point, the Syrian flag was hoisted on the area. Created in 2018, the Morek observation point was the largest Turkish base in Syria.

The Turkish forces started dismantling the base on October 19, said the Observatory. It added that the Turkish forces are currently evacuating another observation point in the Shahshabo mountain in the northwestern countryside of Hama.

The move comes as Turkey is evacuating observation points in areas that have returned under the control of the Syrian army in Hama province. The withdrawal is part of an agreement between Russia and Turkey.

Turkey has maintained several bases in the countryside of Hama and Idlib province in northwestern Syria as part of previous agreements with Russia to observe a cease-fire between the Syrian forces and the rebels.

But the Syrian army captured several areas in the two provinces, pushing the Turkish forces to prepare for withdrawal.
