Fuel crisis in NW Syria | “Watad” company raises fuel prices, as Turkish lira plummets against US dollar

“Watad” fuel company run by Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham has raised fuel prices once again in areas under the control of HTS and opposition factions in Idlib. The prices have risen as follows:

 

  • Petrol: 5.10 Turkish lira per litre

 

  • Imported oil: 5.00 Turkish lira per litre

 

  • Refined oil: 4.00 Turkish lira per litre

 

  • A gas cylinder: 76 Turkish lira.

 

“Watad” company justified the new increase in fuel prices under the Turkish currency’s ongoing plunge, as the Turkish lira has hit a record low against the US dollar.

 

On October 31, reliable SOHR sources confirmed that “Watad” fuel company run by Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham raised fuel prices in the areas held by HTS and factions in Idlib. The prices rose as follows:

 

  • Petrol: 5.00 Turkish lira per litre.

 

  • Imported oil: 4.90 Turkish lira per litre.

 

  • Refined oil: 3.90 Turkish lira per litre.

 

  • A gas cylinder: 74 Turkish lira.

 

“Watad” has justified the new rise due to the ongoing plummet of Turkish lira against the U.S. dollar.

 

Similarly on October 17, reliable SOHR sources confirmed that “Watad” fuel company raised fuel prices in areas under its control. The new prices were as follows:

 

  • Petrol increased from 4.60 to 4.70 Turkish lira per litre.

 

  • Oil increased from 4.50 to 4.60 Turkish lira per litre.

 

  • A gas cylinder increased from 62 to 70 Turkish lira.

 

While on September 10, SOHR sources confirmed that “Watad” fuel company raised fuel prices under pretext of “Turkish currency plunge against US dollar”. The prices rose as follows:

 

  • Petrol increased from 4.40 to 4.50 Turkish lira per litre.

 

  • Oil increased from 4.30 to 4.40 Turkish lira per litre.

 

  • A gas cylinder increased from 60 to 62 Turkish lira.
