Afrin | “Abu Amsha” imposes new levies on residents in villages under its control in northwest of Aleppo

Aleppo Governorate – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

The Turkish-backed factions continue their violations against the people of Afrin who chose to stay in the city and its countryside northwest of Aleppo.

Observatory sources say that the leader of the Sulaiman Shah faction, known as “Abu Amsha”, imposed levies on the residents of villages and towns under the control of his faction in rural Afrin, as follows:

  • Each person who guarantees the olive trees on behalf of their relative, who have been displaced from the Afrin area, must pay eight dollars for each olive tree in the plains.
  • Four dollars for each olive tree in the mountain areas, whether it is a productive tree or not.

Moreover, Abu Amsha also imposed a 15 percent of the oil produced by poeple as a “tax” goes to the treasury of the “Suleyman Shah” faction.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, some residents tried to file complaints to the military police and Turkish forces in Afrin against the practices of the leader of the Suleyman Shah faction, but in vain, according to the residents.
