ISIS resurgence | Leader of “137th Regiment” among nearly 30 regime soldiers and NDF members killed and injured by ambush in Al-Mayadeen

Reliable SOHR sources have confirmed that ISIS has ambushed a military column of regime forces and regime-backed “National Defence Forces” (NDF) near Faydat Ibn Muwayne’ in Al-Mayadeen desert in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. Fierce clashes, which left a great number of fatalities, erupted between the attackers and the members of the column, who were on their way to sweep the area.

 

SOHR activists have documented the death of 11 regime soldiers and NDF members, including a brigadier general, the leader of the “137th Regiment”, while over 17 others sustained various injuries. After the attack, NDF militias brought in large military reinforcement from Al-Mayadeen to the conflict zone.

 

Since 24th of March 2019, SOHR has documented the killing of at least 986 regime soldiers and loyalists of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, including at least two Russians, and 140 Iranian-backed militiamen of non-Syrian nationalities. All were killed in attacks, bombings and ambushes by the “Islamic State”, west of Euphrates in the deserts of Deir Ezzor, Homs, and Al-Suwaidaa.

 

Also, four civilians working in gas fields, 11 shepherds and four other people were killed and documented by SOHR in the same period, from late March 2019 until today. They were killed in attacks by ISIS cells. While 532 ISIS members were also killed in attacks and bombardment in the same period.
