Turkish-backed factions’ violations | Hundreds of olive trees cut down in Afrin

Aleppo Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: As Turkish-backed factions violations continue against the remaining residents in Afrin in the north-west of Aleppo, SOHR activists say that members of “Suqur Al-Shamal” and “Al-Muntaser Bellah” felled hundreds of olive trees and stole others belonging to civilians in Bolbol and Ma’batli countryside.

A few days ago, Observatory sources reported that Turkish-backed factions continued their violations against the people of Afrin who chose to stay in the city and its countryside northwest of Aleppo, as sources said that the leader of the Sulaiman Shah faction, “Abu Amsha”, imposed levies on the residents of villages and towns under the control of his faction in rural Afrin, as follows:

  • Each person who guaranteed the olive trees on behalf of their relative, who displaced from Afrin area, had to pay eight dollars for each olive tree in the plains.

  • Four dollars for each olive tree in mountain areas, whether it is a fruit-bearing tree or not.

Moreover, Abu Amsha imposed a 15 percent of the oil produced by people as a “tax” goes to the treasury of the “Suleyman Shah” faction.

According to local sources, some residents tried to file complaints to the military police and Turkish forces in Afrin against the practices of the leader of the Suleyman Shah faction, but in vain.
