Economy | Syrian pound hits new record low, prices of gold are almost out of reach, and bread crisis continues
The Syrian pound has recorded a new record low today against foreign currency, as the Syrian pound against the US dollar recorded 2,890 SYL, while the Syrian pound against the Euro recorded 3,422 SYL. Also, the exchange rate of the Syrian pound against the Turkish lira has risen to 382 TL.
Moreover, the price of 21 carat gold reached 150,000 SYL per gram, while the 18 carat gold are sold for 127,000 SYL per gram. Similarly, the Syria’s ounce of fine gold has hit unprecedented price with 5,250,000 SYL (1,888 USD).
On the other hand, markets throughout Syria have experienced astronomically inflated prices of food and essentials because of the Syrian currency plunge, along with the ongoing bread crisis in all regime-controlled areas.
