Popular resentment | In light of coronavirus outbreaks, “Autonomous Administration” organizes demonstration in Al-Darbasiyyah

Syrian Observatory activists have monitored a mass demonstration in Al-Darbasiyyah town in rural Al-Hasakah, expressing rejection of Baghdad-Erbil agreement.

The demonstration was organized by the “Autonomous Administration” which called via loudspeakers for forcibly closure of shops in the town until the end of the demonstration. Such calls and the holding of this demonstration triggered broad popular resentment, especially with violating the precautionary measures imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19.

It is worth noting that the Autonomous Administration has previously imposed full curfew in areas under its control. However, the Autonomous Administration itself organized and called for today’s demonstration, disregarding precautionary measures and social distancing in the wake of coronavirus outbreaks in the region.

On November 23, Observatory activists monitored mass demonstrations in Dayrik, Al-Qamishli, Rumaylan and other cities and towns in north-eastern Syria region, expressing rejection of Baghdad-Erbil agreement according to which Iraqi forces will be deployed in Shingal area, where the road used by SDF to travel between Iraq and Syria runs through.

The demonstrators also called for not allowing massacres to be committed against the Yazidis.
