Syrian desert in 72 hours | Russian jets execute over 100 airstrikes, and more than 40 regime soldiers and ISIS members killed

Military operations are underway in different areas in the Syrian desert between regime forces and loyalists on one hand, and ISIS on the other. The violent clashes are mostly concentrated in frontlines of Aleppo-Hama-Al-Raqqah triangle, while fighting subsides in Deir Ezzor and Homs deserts.

It is worth noting that ISIS steps up its operations, including the attacks, ambushes and explosions, seeking to maintain its presence in the region. Meanwhile, regime forces, backed by Russian air support, are attempting to put an end to ISIS activities.

In the past 72 hours, SOHR activists documented over 100 airstrikes executed by Russian jets on frontlines of the Syrian desert. SOHR activists have also documented large losses among regime forces and ISIS in bombardment, attacks and clashes between both side in the same period, as 22 ISIS members were killed, while regime forces lost 19 soldiers and loyalists. The death toll is expected to rise further as several combatants injured, some seriously. There are unconfirmed reports of more casualties.

Since 24th of March 2019, SOHR has documented the killing of at least 1,046 regime soldiers and loyalists of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, including at least two Russians, and 140 Iranian-backed militiamen of non-Syrian nationalities. All were killed in attacks, bombings and ambushes by the “Islamic State”, west of Euphrates in the deserts of Deir Ezzor, Homs, and Al-Suwaidaa.

Also, four civilians working in gas fields, 11 shepherds and four other people were killed and documented by SOHR in the same period, from late March 2019 until today. They were killed in attacks by ISIS cells. While 584 ISIS members were also killed in attacks and bombardment in the same period.
