Coronavirus in regime-held areas | Confirmed cases approximate 80,000, over 5,000 die so far, while regime authorities continue misinformation

Regime authorities continue misinformation and keeping the real number of deaths and infection cases with coronavirus throughout areas under regime control secret, amid disastrous medical situation. As regime Ministry of Health has announced that 8,147 infections have been recorded, of whom 432 people died and 3,748 recovered since the beginning of coronavirus outbreaks in Syria.

This statistic is an a prove of the regime authorities’ lies, as medical sources in areas under the control of Syrian regime have told SOHR that each Syrian province records hundreds or thousands of infections every day as well as tens of deaths. Meanwhile, most of the infection cases and deaths are documented in the provinces of Al-Suwaidaa, Latakia, Aleppo, Damascus and Rif Dimashq.

Despite the broad spread of the virus across Syria, the Syrian regime has adopted no precautionary measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. However, queues and crowds are still seen in front of bread bakeries, gas stations and in markets. Furthermore, football matches are played with large public presence, at a time when most countries all over the world impose strict precautionary measures for combating coronavirus.

According to SOHR latest statistics, based on reports obtained from reliable medical sources in regime-controlled areas, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases has reached nearly 78,900, of whom 24,500  recovered, and 5,010 died.
