For 19th day in a row | Drinking water is still cut off to al-Hasaka city and surrounding areas

Hasaka Governorate – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR sources say that the drinking water is still cut off to the city of Hasaka and its surroundings and the town of Tal Tamer and surrounding villages in countryside of Hasakeh, for the 19th day in a row, due to the interruption of the “Aluk” station in Ras al-Ain countryside “Sere Kaniye” in light of the power cut that supplies the station with electricity, coming from SDF-controlled areas.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, the city of Hasaka and its surrounding, Tel Tamer area and surrounding villages are experiencing a severe crisis in securing water, where the price of one barrel of water reached 1,000 Syrian pounds, in addition to difficulties encountered by civilians in securing water.

On December 5, SOHR activists said that Russian forces and their Turkish counterparts were contributing to the repair of the malfunctions at the Aluk water station, which has been suspended from supplying drinking water to the city of Hasakeh and parts of its countryside for 72 hours.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, Russian forces escort maintenance workers of the Syrian regime institutions for three consecutive days to the village of Kasra, which is considered the dividing line with the “Peace Spring” areas. The maintenance workers with Turkish vehicles go to the Aluk station to maintain electrical failures and electrical wiring.

Meanwhile, Turkish-backed factions have threatened maintenance workers to stop pumping water at the station if electricity reaches less than 10 megawatts.

SOHR sources have confirmed that the frequent failures in the power transmission lines are caused by overloading, as Turkish-backed factions allow agricultural entrepreneurs to illegally draw electricity from the power transmission lines allocated to the station in return for bribes, to operate private water pumps, causing the collapse of the electricity grid after the value of power consumption reaches about 10 megawatts, while the value of the station’s consumption of electricity no more than 3.5 megawatts.
