Recruited earlier in SDF | “Child Protection” office hands over two teenagers to their families

The “Child Protection” office in Al-Hasakah city has handed over two teenagers known by their initials as (A.A.) and (M.M.) to their families, after they had joined the SDF military.

This development comes after the establishment of “Child Protection” offices in SDF-held areas and the signing of the Geneva Convention.

On December 16, SOHR sources reported that the “Child Protection” office in Ain Al-Arab city (Kobani), under coordination with the city’s Military Council, handed over two girls to their families, one is 15 years old and the other is 16 years old, after they had joined the SDF ranks.

Similarly on December 13, SOHR activists said that the office of “Child Protection”, after coordination with the Deir Ezzor Civil Council, handed over a child to his relatives, after being recruited in SDF ranks for several months.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, the 11-year-old child, who is known by his initials as (A.H.), was joined SDF without the knowledge of his parents and was brought back after his relatives filed a complaint, in coordination with the General Executive Office in Raqqa province of the “Self-Administration.”

This follows the establishment of the “Child Protection” office in the SDF-held areas and the signing of the Geneva Convention.

On December 8, SOHR activists said that the office of “Child Protection” in coordination with the Office of Relations of the Military Council of Hasaka, handed over three children to their parents, who were fighters in the ranks of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

According to Syrian Observatory sources, the children who were handed over to their parents aged 14, 15 and 16. This comes after the establishment of the office of “Child Protection” in the SDF-held areas and the signing of the Geneva Convention.

On November 22, SOHR sources said that the so-called “Al-Shabiba Al-Thawriya” continued to rob children of their childhood, while kidnapping and recruiting children to serve its own interests, ignoring all child protection laws, despite continued demands to stop child recruitment altogether.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights continues to highlight these operations, particularly with appeals of the affected children’s families to reveal the fate of their children and to bring them back immediately.

SOHR sources said that the “Al-Shabiba Al-Thawriya” are trying to improve its image following the intense media pressure, by forcing children to talk to their parents and tell them that they are okay, while asking their parents to not talk to the media because “it will not help”.
