New vigil in Deir Ezzor | Teachers protest “Self-Protection” decision imposing mandatory conscription

Deir Ezzor Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: SOHR activists have monitored several teachers staging a vigil in Al-Suwar town in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, protesting the “Self-Protection” decision forcing teachers and employees to perform mandatory military service in Deir Ezzor countryside.

On December 20, reliable sources told the Syrian Observatory that the Deir Ezzor region’s command of the “Self-Protection Forces” – the “Protection Discipline Center” – provided the education academies in SDF-held areas in Deir Ezzor countryside, with a list of the names of dozens of teachers wanted for performing mandatory service in the ranks of “Self-Defense Forces.”

The notifications were distributed to the teachers and they were threatened with dismissal if they did not check with the “Self-Protection” centres in no more three days. The Committee of “Defense and Self-Protection” started to impose mandatory conscription in Deir Ezzor on employees and workers in the departments of Deir Ezzor Civil Council.
