Deir ez-Zor | SDF members storm smuggling crossing between two banks of the Euphrates, clash with people in charge of crossing and kill one worker

Deir ez-Zor governorate – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR sources say that a patrol of the Syrian Democratic Forces raided a river crossing used to smuggle goods, fuel and people between regime-held areas and SDF-held areas between the two banks of the Euphrates in the town of Al-Shuhayl in eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, clashes erupted between members of the SDF patrol and officials of the river crossing, who are from one of the families in the area, resulting in the death of a member of the family who is running the crossing. Meanwhile, SDF confiscated a car loaded with flour prepared for smuggling to the opposite bank of the town of Al-Shuhayl controlled by regime forces across the Euphrates River.

On December 15, reliable source informed SOHR that Syria Democratic Forces, backed by International Coalition helicopters, stormed several houses in Al-Shuhayl town in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. The security forces arrested three people running a river crossing used for smuggling goods between SDF-controlled areas and regime-held areas via the Euphrates river in Al-Shuhayl town.

According to SOHR sources, the arrested individuals included a former official in the “Self-Defence Forces” who abandoned his job and opened the crossing with the aim to smuggle goods between the river’s two banks.
