In light of coronavirus pandemic | Tens of thousands of people in Homs mourn the death of regime soldiers who killed in ISIS attack in Syrian desert

SOHR sources say that tens of thousands of residents of villages, towns and neighbourhoods of Homs city, have mourned today the death of regime soldiers who were killed two days ago, in attack by the Islamic State on their military buses on the road of Deir ez-Zor-Homs, as they returned to spend the New Year holiday in their homes.

Representatives of the Syrian regime, Baath Party and others, and large crowds of people participated in the funeral, in light of the outbreak of the of coronavirus pandemic, with the regime’s indifference to the safety of civilians in its areas of control, in an attempt to demonstrate interest in its forces, while its only interest was manifested in Iranian militias during the previous prisoner swap with the opposition factions. Where many regime’s prisoners of war appealed to it but their appeals remained unheeded to date.

On December 29, SOHR activists documented 15,300 new Covid-19 cases in the past few days, while 780 other cases died of the virus in the same period.

Meanwhile, regime authorities continue misinformation and keeping the real number of deaths and infection cases with coronavirus secret, by announcing only tens of infections and deaths on a daily basis. Moreover, large number of deaths are claimed to be caused by pneumonia, despite the broad outbreak of the virus throughout Syria.

According to SOHR latest statistics, based on reports obtained from reliable medical sources on the ground in regime-controlled areas, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has approximated 124,300, of whom 44,000 recovered, and 7,930 died.

It is worth noting that regime Ministry of Health’ official statistics announced 11,138 infections, of whom 686 people died and 5,192 recovered.
