After nearly 40 regime soldiers and officers killed in ISIS ambush | Regime forces unleash large-scale campaign in Deir Ezzor desert

Reliable sources have informed SOHR that regime forces, backed by “National Defence Forces” (NDF) and “Al-Quds Brigade”, unleashed a large-scale security campaign since morning on ISIS positions in the southern desert of Deir Ezzor. It worth noting that Russian fighter jets participated in the campaign through executing tens of airstrikes on ISIS positions in the region and other positions in Aleppo-Hama-Al-Raqqah triangle.

This campaign comes two days after ISIS ambush on Homs-Deir Ezzor road, which claimed the lives of tens of regime soldiers and officers.

Yesterday, Observatory activists monitored a spike in the death toll of regime forces, as a result of an ISIS attack on military buses on Homs-Deir Ezzor road a day earlier, as 39 members of 4th Division and regime forces, including eight officers of different ranks, were killed in the attack.

It is worth nothing that some of the bodies were charred as fires broke out after the attack. Also, other members sustained various injuries, some seriously. It is also worth nothing that this was the largest attack by the Islamic State in 2020 in terms of the number of casualties among regime forces.

According to SOHR statistics, ISIS has killed 819 regime soldiers and loyalists in 2020, through attacks, bombardment, ambushes and clashes in the Syrian desert. The total number of fatalities included 108 Iranian-backed militiamen of non-Syrian nationalities. ISIS has also lost 507 fighters in the same operations and the airstrikes by Russian and regime aircraft.
