Growing security chaos in Daraa | Pro-Russian “8th Brigade” attacks Air-Force Intelligence checkpoint on Damascus-Daraa road

Daraa governorate – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR sources have reported that members of the 8th Brigade of the Russian-backed Fifth Corps attacked this afternoon an Air-Force Intelligence checkpoint on the Damascus-Daraa highway, and arrested a number of the checkpoint members and confiscated their weapons for several hours, before releasing them.

In this context, a unit of the Air-Force Intelligence branch arrived to support the members of the checkpoint, and clashed with the 8th Brigade fighters. The clashes lasted for half an hour, before members of the 8th Brigade left the area, but no casualties have been reported.

On December 26, SOHR sources monitored growing tension in the city of Daraa controlled by the Syrian regime and its allies, following a dispute between two groups in Daraa al-Balad in the city. The dispute has evolved into clashes using RPG and gunfire was heard. No information has been reported to date about the causes of the dispute. This comes in light of the chaos spreading throughout the province.

In mid-December, SOHR sources said that members of the 8th Brigade of the Russian-backed “Fifth Corps” raided a house in the town of Samad in Daraa countryside, and arrested a man after returning from Lebanon, where he had been living for years.

Moreover, members of the Air-Force Intelligence branch stationed in the city of Da’il had arrested a young man from the city and took him to an unknown location.
