Military build-up | As assassinations escalate in Daraa, regime forces amass troops preparing for storming village in western countryside

Daraa Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: Syrian Observatory activists have monitored military build-ups in Daraa province, as regime forces are amassing tens of infantry soldiers in Al-Dahiyah area in the south-west of Daraa city. These troops have been deployed in buildings and houses in the area.

 

According to SOHR sources, regime forces seek to deploy their troops in the western countryside of Daraa with the aim to storming several villages and towns there and arrest suspects. It is worth noting that these developments comes in the wake of escalating assassinations throughout Daraa province.

 

SOHR activists have documented the death of nearly 30 people in assassinations and explosions in Daraa province since early December 2020.

 

Since the beginning of the security chaos in Daraa in early June 2019, Syrian Observatory activists have documented more than 829 attacks and assassination attempts by gunfire and detonations of IEDs, motorcycle-bombs and car-bombs. These attacks and assassinations claimed the lives of 540 persons, categorised as follows:

 

  • 151 civilians, including 12 women and 16 children

 

  • 243 regime soldiers, loyalists and collaborators with regime security services

 

  • 104 fighters of factions that struck “reconciliation and settlements” deals with the regime and became in the ranks of regime’s security branches, including former commanders

 

  • 23 Syrian militiamen affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian forces

 

  • 24 members of the so-called 5th Corps which was established by Russia.
