Security chaos in southern Syria | Gunmen attack cargo truck on Damascus-Al-Sweida road

Al-Sweida governorate – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

SOHR sources say that unidentified gunmen opened fire a cargo truck shot on the Sweida-Damascus road near the village of Al-Mattuna. The gunmen tried to hijack the car and kidnap its driver but they failed to do so after a group of people intervened. However, the attackers managed to flee.

This comes as part of the escalating security chaos in Al-Sweida.

On December 23, SOHR sources said that the province of Al-Suwaidaa turned to a safe house for gangs, as escalating security chaos continues, including kidnappings.

In this context, a regime colonel serving in Khalkhalah military airbase was released, after being kidnapped a week ago, and after mediation by Al-Suwaidaa factions and the military security branch. However, the value of the ransom paid for releasing the top officer remained unknown.

On the other hand, a merchant from Aleppo was release a few days ago in Al-Fursan square, also after mediation by the military security branch in Al-Suwaidaa.
