Mysterious explosion | Child dies and his mother injured in northern Deir Ezzor

Deir Ezzor Province – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: Syrian Observatory activists have documented the death of a child and injury of his mother due to an unknown explosion in their house in Al-Izba area in the north of Deir Ezzor city. According to local sources, the explosion was caused by the explosion of old unexploded ordnance. Other sources have suggested that the explosion took place after an artillery shell fell on the house, fired by forces stationed at Koniko gas field where International Coalition Forces and Syria Democratic Forces conduct joint drills.

On January 2, SOHR activists documented the death of a child affected by injuries he sustained in a landmine explosion in a landfill, while collecting plastic and scrap in the village of Abu Hardoub in eastern Deir Ezzor countryside. It is worth noting that the child’s father was also injured in the explosion.
